Mr. Olisa Metuh who has been identified as the former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being found guilty of money laundering, Tuesday.

Olisa according to the court was found guilty of all the seven-count charges brought forward against him including receiving N400m illegally from the defunct National Security Adviser, Dansuki Sambo in November 2014.

The PDP former spokesperson was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for counts 1, 2, 4 and 7, five years imprisonment in respect of count 3, and three years in respect of counts 5 and 6. 

Presiding Justice, Justice Okon Mbang upheld that all the years are to run concurrently, which means that Metuh would spend seven years in prison, and also ordered that the convict pay a fine of N375m to the Federal Government. Olisa’s company, Destra Investments has been ordered to pay N25m to the Federal Government also.

In the same judgment, the Federal High Court Judge also ordered that Destra Investments, belonging to the convict closes its account in Diamond Bank and Asset Resource Management, and the forfeiture of the money in the accounts to the Federal Government.
