Ex Nigerian Super Eagles center back Joseph Michael Yobo has been appointed as super eagles assistant coach. Yobo was the Nigerian Super Eagles captain until his international football retirement in June 2014.

The former Everton defender replaces Imama Amapakabo on the technical team. Yobo won the Africa Cup of Nations title for Nigeria in 2013 and retired from football in 2014. Yobo’s appointment as the assistant Super Eagles coach has been made public a few weeks to the kickoff of their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Cup qualifiers. 

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed his appointment via her official social media handles. Yobo, who spent ten years in the Premier League representing Everton football club takes over from former Rangers International boss Imama AmapakaboYobo has won 101 caps with 7 goals for super eagles  

NFF statement:

“The Nigeria Football Federation has appointed former Super Eagles’ defender and captain Joseph Yobo as assistant coach of the team. He replaces Imama Amapakabo in the three-time African champions’ technical crew.”
