Meet Gov Udom’s Aide Widely Applauded for his Innovative Approaches to Public Service
Morgan Ekanem is not your regular public servant. A lawyer by profession, Barr Morgan is also already a widely regarded Policy Advocate, Change Enthusiast and Mentor who believes that ‘communities are shaped’ by the concerted efforts of ‘concerned citizens’.
Before assuming his new role as the Personal Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Public Affairs, an appointment that received widespread high approvals and endorsements, Morgan had cut his teeth as a brainy young lawyer at The Justice Chambers, a law firm he shares with some of the state’s brightest legal minds: Ekemini Udim, Ini Ememobong, the latter with whom he will go on to form a team of one of the most lethal Publicity Secretariat architecture of any political party anywhere in the world.
An illustrious alumnus of the prestigious Catholic themed Holy Family College, Oku Abak, Barr Morgan went on to study Law at the University of Uyo helping form a part of what has been loosely bandied as ‘The Golden Generation of Uniuyo LAWSAN’. Maverick lawyer, Inibehe Effiong was also among that famed crop. Driven by the desire to help convoke a NextGen Think Tank, Barr Morgan founded the De Joseph Society, an urbane, brainy commingling of some of Akwa Ibom’s innovative minds cutting across the several sectors and strata of the society.Last year, De Society held the Akwa Ibom Beyond Oil Conference, an event roundly acclaimed as the ‘event of the year’, 2019. The hugely attended, highly successful event probed into building Akwa Ibom beyond the usual oil derivatives.
Having already amass massive public goodwill as a personal brand, Barr Ekanem was appointed Governor’s Aide in the last quarter of 2019 and he has since taken to his role like duck to water continually churning out PR A-grades. Barely days after his announcement, he facilitated the purchase, processing and preparation of 24 JAMB forms for indigenes of Oruk Anam, the place of his birth. Sandwiched in the months of doing nothing but public good, the world woke to the reality of the dreaded Coronavirus outbreak. Humanity got paused and lock down reigned across the nation. Hunger and difficulties set in.
True to type, Barr Morgan showed his Midas qualities again. Alongside friends, he has helped set up The Messenger, a toll free delivery for foods and other essentials in the lockdown to anywhere in Akwa Ibom state.Suffice to say, this move has taken his goodwill to the 9th ceiling. Usually christening his social engagements, ‘This is Public Service’, Barr Morgan has through creativity and an unrivaled innovation changed the face of Public Service in the state within just under a quarter year. His, looks to be a meteoric rise of a man who carries humanity on his shoulders and public analysts have already projected a place in the sky for this Oruk Anam born lawyer and social advocate.
